February is Full of Color

dsc_2556February is usually known for cold weather, dreary days, and indoor events. We love variety and winter events, so each year, when the holidays are past us, we look forward to a bright spot of color, which includes the Fearrington Folk Art Show during a weekend in February.

Nearly 40 of the finest artists in the southeast display incredible and thought-provoking work in one of Fearrington’s rustic elegant venues, the Barn. A preview, a weekenddsc_3893 full of browsing, shopping, and conversation are part of this enriching experience. Find paintings, sculpture, pottery, and more at this event, filled with color, character, and charm. Meet the artists in an environment that’s inviting, for friendly talk about their work, their backgrounds, and passion for folk art.

Add more to this event with a stay in our area and expand your art weekend with a visit to the nifty Small Museum of Folk Art, also in Pittsboro, the site of the misc-087Small B&B and Cafe (part of the Heart Trails). It may seem small but it’s quite full of promise, changing exhibits, and wonderful conversations about the artists behind the work.

The collection was originally a gift of more than 400 folk art pieces gathered over a 30-year period. The museum is eco-friendly, has water reclamation, and is constructed from reclaimed and salvaged materials. Dave Clark and Lisa Piper are the owners of Small B&B and Cafe and are among the many volunteers and active participants who have made the Museum part of the local offerings.

Symbolic, unique, and colorful, you’ll find that Februarmisc-066y is worth the trip for all the folk art on display. Make it a long weekend, and/or a romantic getaway for a belated Valentine celebration.
