Crafted in Carolina

We’re pleased to share in the celebration for Carolina Brewery & Grill’s 10th year in Pittsboro; the milestone is an amazing journey, with little guideposts along the way to bring us to this, their first decade in our area.

Owner, Robert Poitras, is among the CVB’s favorite industry professionals, for so many reasons. Atmosphere, service, and menus make a place noteworthy. Poitras is hands-on, knowledgeable, and is always open to offering new features to enhance the restaurant and brewery experience, “We put a stake in the ground over 10 years ago committing to the Pittsboro area when many people thought we were crazy. It has been nice to see the area grow and flourish.  And we are optimistic about continued growth for many years to come.”

Making menus seasonal, hosting a farmers’ market or Oktoberfest, offering a patio music series, giving staff the opportunity for input and room to grow, and serving as a brewery that offers tastings and tours but finds a balance for welcoming families, well, that’s all happened here through the years. One of their team members, Jodi Hackney, has always been given the opportunity to try new things, too. She made beer breads and helped plan events; today, she is successful in her own business, the Phoenix Bakery. Hackney tells us, “Robert always sets  high standards, believes in people who want to do well, and gives them the chance to do so. I owe a lot of the bakery’s success to those opportunities given to me when I worked there and the great beer they still produce today. We use their beer for several recipes here at the bakery. We make great things because they make great things. That’s a great way for a business community to work and I am happy to be a little part of that!”

Poitras and the team at Carolina Brewery & Grill have made amazing strides in their 10 years here; it’s the only brewery on the Heart Trails with a restaurant on-site with weekly tastings and tours. When we asked them to participate in the first-ever NC Beer Month, they readily agreed with a special ale and a dessert (chocolate cake with stout). And we love the collection of pint glasses (and pint night!). The summer patio music series has grown in popularity over the years, and this year, it’s available Friday and Saturdays, a full weekend offering. They offer a variety of year-round events (see below for August) and consistently rank among guests’ favorite things to do.

The tour continues to be engaging and you’ll hear from and speak with the brewmaster and his team. Production has increased, along with a variety of craft beers. Visit them and wish them a happy 10th anniversary (by the way, when we searched for gifts for 10 years, it just so happens that the traditional ones are aluminum, appropriate and probably easier than modern (diamond jewelry) or other options (daffodils). The best part is, they’re giving the gifts to us, aluminum and all (check out the CANniversary later this month).

Poitras hopes everyone shares in the many celebrations ahead, “We are excited to celebrate this 10 year milestone with the local community and our many longtime customers.”
