Every itinerary includes food and, sometimes, the primary purpose of the trip is a great meal. We have some local dinners this month that give a terrific sampling of the food and drink from our area, with settings that include porches, historic homes and buildings, and working farms.
Try tasty meads at the Pittsboro Roadhouse and Starrlight Mead dinner, including the Kickin’ Cranberry Orange and Pomegranate Pink Peppercorn, paired with a variety of dishes, such as a citrus and herb house made duck sausage with Celebrity Dairy goat cheese and creamy winter squash ragout. Full menu (Oct 22) of five seasonal meads and plates in a relaxing atmosphere in downtown Pittsboro.
The elegant 458 West bed and breakfast offers monthly Fourth Friday dinners, with an option to dine on the porch or indoors, with a pleasant setting either way. The seasonal menus are a glimpse of the local goodness but also the creative flair of welcoming innkeepers adding a perfect finish to a romantic stay. You’re just a short walk from downtown Pittsboro so you’ll love the location as much as the inn. Menu (Oct 25). Indulge in the tastes of the season, with pumpkin soup, roasted root vegetable salad, apple crisp, and more.
Years ago, before farm-to-table became wildly popular, Brit and Fleming Pfann of the Inn at Celebrity Dairy opened their home one Sunday each month to share good local food, conversation, and their pocket of paradise on the farm. Everyone has a favorite moment, whether it’s the cheese chat, the long family table for a meal filled with camaraderie, tours with a chance to see the goats, leisurely hikes on the farm, or a combination of these features. Visit for autumn on the farm (Oct 20), Thanksgiving at the farm (Nov 20), or Christmas dinner (Dec 15). A myriad of dishes include an abundance of local ingredients; select from menus that include chevre and pate terrine, roasted yellow pepper sorbet, apple pie with ginger ice cream, cranberry and walnut muffins with pumpkin butter, and smoked pheasant, among other sweet and savory entrees and sides.
Other options include the Pop-Up series and wine dinners at Bella Donna Italian Restaurant, pantry dinners (great for local to take home) or dine in meals at the Natural Chef Cafe, seasonal and special occasion wine dinners at Oakleaf, The Fearrington House Restaurant culinary retreats and cooks and books series, and much more. We’ve offered only a sampling here of upcoming dinners. See more about dining in our area and celebrate fall eating!
